🍩 Donuts - Blender

I tried following the tutorial video by Blender Guru on YouTube about 4-5 years ago, but I got busy and forgot to continue after making the icing part. As a result, my poor donut never got the pretty sprinkles and glorious lighting it deserved. I've always known that learning 3D would be useful both personally and for work, but one specific reason had always held me back from eagerly pursuing this skill: my motion sickness.

Some people find it funny when I say that 3D games or anything that requires navigating in a 3D environment (e.g.FPS games, ZBrush, etc.) causes me motion sickness. However, this is actually quite common among some of my friends as well. Just watching some gameplay on YouTube or even thinking about a fast-moving 3D scene makes me start to feel sick, and my head begins to hurt.

Well, a few years passed since I left my donut cold in the dust. While revamping my art portfolio, something nudged me to give learning 3D another try—at least to sculpt the heads of my characters. So, yesterday, I sat down for about 8-9 hours straight, watching Blender Guru’s latest Blender 4.0 donut tutorial videos on my iPad while sculpting on my MacBook.

The UI and overall process felt several times more complicated compared to anything 2D. Even making simple sprinkles required so many steps! Kudos to all 3D artists. Navigating or moving the camera still triggered some motion sickness, but I pushed through to finish my donuts—and here they are 🥹

Final rendering of my donuts.
Now I’m craving Krispy Kreme originals 😂
